Marine Environment
Due to the unique marine environment, recent domestic and international experimental studies have demonstrated the distinct advantages and irreplaceability of DAS technology in marine scientific exploration, showcasing a wide range of applications. These include tidal and current monitoring, tsunami and storm detection, marine animal target monitoring, submarine geological imaging, and seabed carbon capture and storage (CCS). The ixDAS-3000 series products, capable of measuring extremely low-frequency signals (detecting signals below 0.01 Hz), fully meet the various application requirements of marine scientific exploration.
Marine seismic observation has long relied on seabed seismometers, which have high deployment and maintenance costs, resulting in less extensive and dense coverage compared to terrestrial observations. Utilizing long-distance DAS technology and the existing extensive network of submarine optical cables, including retired submarine communication cables or unused “dark” fibers in active cables, a wide-area marine seismic observation network with high spatial sampling densities can be established.
Submarine cables, including submarine communication cables and submarine power cables, serve as vital communication and energy arteries and are crucial infrastructure. They are frequently at risk from ship anchors and fishing trawls. The DAS system monitors vibration signals around submarine cables to detect potential threats from anchors and trawls and identifies ships through the Automatic Identification System (AIS), issuing warnings and guidance.
