Oil and Gas Pipeline Health Monitoring

Oil and gas leaks caused by external damage in long-distance pipelines have long been a major concern for petroleum companies. External damage accounts for a significant proportion of oil and gas pipeline accidents in China, such as excavation activities above pipelines, drilling and tapping for oil (gas) theft, and attacks on pipelines. The distributed oil and gas pipeline safety warning system developed based on DAS equipment is widely used in long-distance pipelines for crude oil, refined oil, offshore oil, and natural gas. By using ordinary single-mode communication optical cables laid in the same trench as the oil and gas pipelines, the system collects vibration signals near the pipelines, monitoring for leaks, external damage, and ground movement, accurately locating and identifying different types of external damage events, thereby achieving around-the-clock health monitoring of oil and gas pipelines.
